HKA Participates in Tri-School Friendship Tournament: Building Bonds Through Sports

On April 20, 2024, Nanjing Hankai Academy’s boys’ football and basketball teams proudly represented the school in a triangular sports competition alongside Nanjing Foreign Language School (British Columbia Academy) and Suzhou North America High School. Each school participated with a football team and a basketball team, creating an exciting day of athletic camaraderie and friendly rivalry.

A Day of Unyielding Spirit and Teamwork

The day began with Hankai’s basketball and football teams playing against British Columbia Academy. Although Hankai’s teams fought valiantly, British Columbia Academy emerged victorious after a hard-fought basketball game that extended into two intense overtime periods. Hankai then faced Suzhou North America High School, whose strong teams ultimately proved challenging. Despite the losses, the Hankai players displayed remarkable resilience, teamwork, and sportsmanship, making the school proud with their dedication and character.

Voices from the Field

Here’s what our players and coaches had to say about the experience:

Basketball Team

Captain Guo Zixu: “The outcome in sports can be unpredictable. This experience taught us to recognize our areas for improvement. Our goals go beyond today’s results.”

Player Liu Zhengxin: “We learned valuable lessons from this competition. Our aim is to improve and come back stronger next time.”

Coach Chen Chen: “Basketball is like life. Whether facing favorable or difficult situations, keep your head up, never give up, and push forward with courage.”

Football Team

Captain Liu Xi: “Our football team showed exceptional unity and unbreakable spirit. This is only the beginning. We’ll continue to strive and set new goals!”

Player Jiang Chengxi: “Friendship comes first, competition second. As Hankai students, we displayed resilience and positivity. This first experience has been invaluable for our growth.”

Coach Chen Fanxing: “Maintain your passion for football, keep your hunger for victory alive, and give your best on the field!”

Looking Ahead

We look forward to more exciting performances from both teams later in the semester and in the new academic year. A special thank you to teachers Gerhard, Daniel, Leo, Long, Tammy, Nino, Jonel, Joan, and Eric for their unwavering support throughout the event.

Through events like this, HKA continues to emphasize the importance of sportsmanship, friendship, and personal growth. We are confident that our students will carry forward these values, building stronger bonds and reaching new heights in both academics and athletics.
